Four New Business to Occupy Former Stella’s Location

Azeka Shopping Center in Kīhei is remodeling the former Stella Blues Cafe location to accommodate four new business—two retailers and two restaurants—according to Azeka’s property management company, MW Commercial Realty Inc.
Stella Blues Cafe closed in April 20114 after 23 years of operation.
The larger restaurant space has been leased by Dave “DK” Kodama, founder of Seafood Restaurant & Sushi Bar, which features contemporary sushi and new wave Asian-inspired cuisine on Maui in Kapalua and Kīhei Town Center, on O‘ahu in Waikiki, in Waikaloa on Hawai‘i Island and in Seattle, Washington.
The restaurant will not open as Sansei, however, a MW Commercial Realty spokesperson said.
The only information available at this point is that the new restaurant will be a “gastropub”—a bar and restaurant that serves high-end beer and food, according to Grapevine Productions, Kodama’s public relations firm on Maui.
The new restaurant, located on the mauka-side of the Stella’s building, will include a new lānai.
The smaller restaurant space has been leased by the owners of Three’s Bar & Grill in Kīhei. Three’s serves Hawaiian, Southwestern and Pacific Rim cuisine. The new restaurant, Fork & Salad, will serve “green and tasty” fare, according to the restaurant’s initial website posting.
The farm-to-table eatery will specialize in fresh, custom salads, according to a Three’s manager.
The makai-side restaurant will also include a lānai.
Fork & Salad will open between May 15 and June 1, a Three’s manager said.
The two retail spaces, at 825 square feet each, are located between the two restaurants.
Azeka Shopping Center, one of the largest shopping centers in Kīhei with approximately 135,645 square feet of leasable space and 700 free parking stalls, offers a diverse collection of more than 50 restaurants, shops and services.
This traditional Hawaiian architectural center was built in phases beginning in 1978.
Azeka Shopping Center is also home to Kihei 4th Friday, part of the Maui Friday Town Parties initiative developed by the Maui County Office of Economic Development to showcase the island’s historic towns and celebrate the unique nature of their businesses communities
