Rotary St. Patrick’s Day Party Raises Nearly $15,000
The Rotary Club of Lahaina Sunset raised nearly $15,000 in March during its second annual Go For The Green fundraiser.
The money will go toward the club’s comprehensive recycling program held the third Saturday of each month at Lahaina Cannery Mall as well as other initiatives, including college scholarships for local youth pursuing degrees in an area of sustainability.
“Go For The Green was a success and a great party,” said Sandy Schneider, club president. “We not only met our ambitious fundraising goal, we exceeded it thanks to hardworking club members, generous sponsors and local businesses that donated live auction items, and more than 100 silent auction items.”
Over 150 guests attended the party at the Royal Lahaina Resort on March 17.
“We are grateful to the community for joining us for a fun night out in support of our monthly Go Green recycling project,” said club director Liz May. “The success of Go Green is due to committed community partners, dedicated volunteers and the caring members of the community who came out on March 17 to help us to continue to make a difference in West Maui.”
Since its start in July 2015, the monthly Go Green Third Saturday recycling program has collected over 51,000 pounds of scrap metal, more than 1,000 electronic devices and more than 400 appliances.
The next Go Green Third Saturday Recycling event will be held April 16 from 8 a.m. to noon at Lahaina Cannery Mall. All recyclables qualify for drop off except oversized tires and household goods. There is a $5 charge for each tire; all other items are accepted without charge. No fees are paid to residents for recyclables delivered to the event.
Go Green Third Saturday Recycling is the Rotary Club of Lahaina Sunset’s centennial project to mark 100 years of Rotary in Hawaii. By encouraging honor and respect for the land, it celebrates Rotary’s commitment to serve the people of Hawai‘i. Go Green Third Saturday Recycling will continue through June 2016.
Malama Maui Nui, 5A Rent-A-Space in Honokowai, Lahaina Cannery Mall and the County of Maui are co-sponsors of the monthly events.
