Schaefer—’Young Creatives: Neighborhood Places’
Schaefer International Gallery at the Maui Arts & Cultural Center will feature its Young Creatives: Neighborhood Places exhibit through May 19, 2016.
This exhibit takes place every other year and features the work of Maui students from kindergarten to high school in both private and public schools.
Under the direction of their classroom teachers, students were asked to explore this year’s theme—neighborhood—to observe, identify and create artwork that reflects their unique ideas, and sense of place.
The playful gallery design will lead viewers on a topographical tour of Maui’s communities through the eyes of its students.
Participating Maui schools in the classroom projects are: Baldwin High School, Ha‘ikū Elementary School, ʻĪao Intermediate School, Kalama Intermediate School, Kamehameha School, Kīhei Elementary School, Kula Elementary School, Lahainaluna High School, Makawao Elementary School, Maui High School, Maui Waena Intermediate School, Pōmaikaʻi Elementary School, Princess Nāhiʻenaʻena, Pukalani Elementary School and Puʻu Kukui Elementary School.
Special hours for this exhibit: open daily 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., before Castle Theater shows and during intermission. The gallery will be closed Saturday, May 14.
