Maui SBW voluntary organizers invite you to attend the 2016 Maui SBW FREE events (left to right): David ‘Kahu’ Kapaku, Grace Fung, Lori Fisher, Kauionalani Waller, Trisha Anderson, Nicole Fisher and John Hau’oli Tomoso.

A free reception has been added to Maui Small Business Week’s agenda on Monday, May 9, to facilitate networking among local business owners attending the opening day of the week-long event.

The networking reception will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. at Kahili Golf Course in Wailuku, featuring free pūpū and a no-host bar.

Attendees are asked to RSVP for the networking event on the Maui Small Business Week website [1].

Host John Hau‘oli Tomoso encourages the local business community to make the time on Monday for this free event, emphasizing that “as a community, we can learn from each other, partner and grow our businesses. But the first step is to connect and reach out to neighboring businesses in the community.”

Beginning at 8:30 a.m. on Monday, Maui Small Business Week will kick off at the Kahili Golf Course in Wailuku with panel discussion emceed by hosts David Kapaku and Tomoso, with a complimentary continental breakfast included.

The featured speaker for the opening ceremony is Kainoa Horcajo, Hawaiian cultural ambassador at the Grand Wailea and an emerging leader in the field of cultural tourism.

“The opening session should be informative as well as entertaining, with business insights, as well as deeper understanding of the local Maui market and community,” said Kapaku.

Local representatives of the Maui Office of Economic Development will also address the opening audience.

The first two sessions following the ceremony will focus on core skills for business success, such as delivering powerful business presentations, how to attract new business and keep current customers, and understanding key financial strategies to drive sustained profitability.

With the official support of the Maui County Office of Economic Development, Maui Business Brainstormers is leading the event again this year with an entire week—from May 9 through 13, 2016—devoted to educational workshops and seminars.

Events will be held in Central Maui, and for the first time ever, Hāna, Lāna‘i and Moloka‘i also host events during Maui’s SBW.

Maui SBW will feature 23 guest speakers offering 21 different sessions.

The program throughout the week will include prominent speakers from California, O‘ahu and the Maui business community.

Topics will include: pricing strategies and the role of pricing in your marketing mix; six different kinds of crowdfunding and how each one works; honing marketing techniques such as use of effective tag lines and a polished elevator pitch; an introduction to lean techniques for product and service businesses; and improving operations and expanding a small business through focus on your business plan.
