Maui Flood Advisory Expires

Update:

The National Weather Service cancelled the flood advisory that was in effect for the island of Maui at 4:32 p.m. on Tuesday, May 24, 2016. Weather radar and rain gauges show that the heavy rains have ended, thus the flood advisory is allowed to expire.

The National Weather Service has issued a Flood Advisory for the island of Maui until 5:15 p.m.

At 2:20 p.m., radar showed heavy rain near ʻUlupalakua with rainfall rates of over two inches per hour.

Locations in the advisory include, but are not limited to: Kīhei, Kula, Wailea-Mākena, Kēōkea, ʻUlupalakua, Wailea, Māʻalaea and Mākena.

Motorists and pedestrians are reminded not to cross fast flowing or rising water in their vehicle or on foot.  The public should also stay away from streams, drainage ditches and low-lying areas that are prone to flooding.

The advisory may need to be extended beyond 5:15 p.m. if heavy rain persists.
