Moku‘ula by Moonlight in Fall, Sept. 15

Moku‘ula by Moonlight in the Fall will feature more Hawaiian music and storytelling on Thursday, Sept. 15, 2016 from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Presented by Friends of Moku‘ula, this cultural and educational program is free and open to the public.

As the full moon rises over Mauna Kahalawai in West Maui, the Mokuʻula/Mokuhinia restoration site in Lahaina is in the spotlight as viewed from the Hale Halawai in Kamehameha Iki Park at 525 Front Street in Lahaina.

Hawaiian mele, mo‘olelo and mana‘o mix when popular musicians share the stage with Maui elders who tell their stories about Lahaina. Entertainers include ‘ukulele and slack key musicians as well as recording artists who perform in a kanikapila style jam. As part of the program, special guest speakers talk about current Native Hawaiian issues.

Moku‘ula by Moonlight is held on the lawn in front of the thatched hale in Kamehameha Iki Park, 525 Front Street, Lahaina. Limited bench seating is provided; blankets, mats and low beach chairs are welcome.
