2016 Baby of the Year Contest Seeks Entries for 94th Maui Fair

HMSA and Pacific Media Group present the 17th Baby of the Year Contest.

Organizers are looking for Maui’s awesome keiki to show what they’ve got and display their baby bravado for event judges.

Interested parents can register online and take their first steps toward great prizes and possibly, the Baby of the Year crown. Registration applications and waiver forms can be found online.

Contestants born on or between April 9, 2014 and Oct. 9, 2015 will be eligible to participate; there is no admission fee. The entry deadline is Sept. 23, 2016, or when organizers have reached the first 120 contestants.

“We are proud to bring the 17th Baby of the Year Contest, which showcases the many families and children of Maui,” said Sherri Grimes, Maui Fair Managing Director.

The contest itself takes place on Saturday, Oct. 8, at the Main Entertainment Stage. Keiki are judged on physical appearance, healthiness and personality, with each category scored on a 25-point scale.

The five highest-scoring babies are each awarded prizes from the Maui Fair and its many sponsors. The 2016 Baby of the Year will win a weekend get away at the Grand Wailea Resort, compliments of KarMART for Kids, and a weekend getaway at the Westin Kāʻanapali Ocean Resort Villas. All contestants will receive a goodie bag from sponsors.

From its beginnings in 1916 the Maui Fair has become “A Timeless Tradition.” It attracts locals and visitors alike to enjoy an alcohol-free, smoke-free and drug-free family-oriented educational event that features multicultural food, first-rate entertainment, EK Fernandez Joy Zone, plus horticulture, livestock, homemaking, photo and art exhibits and competitions.
