Visitor Pulled from Waters off “Black Rock” in Kāʻanapali

Fire, police and paramedics in West Maui responded to the beach on the south side of Puʻu Kekaʻa or “Black Rock” in Kāʻanapali for an unresponsive male pulled from the water at 12:53 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 14, 2016.

Fire officials say police and EMS personnel were already performing life-saving measures when Lahaina firefighters arrived on scene at 1 p.m.

According to department reports, an individual noticed the man floating near shore and pulled him from the water.

Bystanders came to the man’s aid and performed CPR until paramedics and police officers arrived.

Fire officials say the 38-year-old man from Pasadena, California regained a pulse, and was transported by paramedics to the Maui Memorial Medical Center in critical condition.

The man’s current condition in not available.
