County and State airport firefighters responded to a 7-acre brush fire near the Kahului heliport on the east side of the airport runway at 11:20 a.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 4, 2016.

Fire officials say county firefighters were on the scene at around 11:30 a.m. and found about an acre of brush burning near Kala Road and Kuhea Street on the east side of the airport.

Firefighters and tractor equipment from Kahului Airport also responded to the brush fire.

Two engine crews and a water tanker from Maui Fire Department, as well as firefighters and equipment from Kahului Airport were still mopping up at the scene at around 4:15 p.m.

No damages or injuries were reported. The cause of the fire is still undetermined at this time.

Hawaiian Commercial & Sugar personnel conducted a scheduled cane burn between 3 a.m. and 5 a.m. today near the area of this morning’s brush fire, but it is unclear if there the two fires were related.
