Skiff Adrift Off Hāna, Maui: Help Sought Locating Owner

The Coast Guard is seeking the public’s help in identifying the owner of a 16-foot, yellow skiff found approximately nine miles southeast of Hāna, Maui, Monday, Oct. 10, 2016.

Anyone with knowledge of such a vessel who may be able to identify it is asked to contact Coast Guard Sector Honolulu at (808) 842-2600.

Coast Guard watchstanders from the Sector Honolulu command center received notification of the vessel from the crew of an airborne Coast Guard HC-130 Hercules airplane at 10:40 a.m.

There have been no reports of missing persons in the area. The Coast Guard has suspended its active search pending any new developments.

The public is reminded to notify watchstanders at their local command center when their watercraft and equipment break anchor, wash out to sea or are adrift to prevent any unnecessary searches.
