UH Maui Hawaiian Studies Program Observes Indigenous Peoples’ Day

The University of Hawaiʻi Maui College Hoʻoulu Lāhui Hawaiian Studies Program hosts an Indigenous Peoples’ Day gathering this afternoon.

The event includes comments from speakers: Walter Ritte at 1:30 p.m.; Kaleikoa Ka’eo at 2 p.m.; and Andre Perez live from Standing Rock – Red Warrior Camp in North Dakota at 2:30 p.m.  The talks will be held at the UHMC Open Hale.

At 4 p.m., a sign-waving event is planned along Kaʻahumanu Avenue in solidarity with Standing Rock Sioux Nation to raise awareness and education of those opposed to the Dakota Access Pipeline for crude oil planned for construction beneath the Missouri River.

A talk entitled “Political Myths Deconstructed” is also planned for 6 p.m. at UH Maui College Ka Lama Building room 103.
