Hui O Waʻa Kaulua Legacy Awards honoring Clifford Naeʻole. Saturday, October 15, 2016

Hui O Waʻa Kaulua, Maui’s Voyaging Society presents a Legacy Awards Dinner honoring Clifford Naeʻole on Saturday, Oct. 15, 2016 from 6 to 10 p.m. at the King Kamehameha Golf Club in Waikapū.

Each year Hui O Wa’a Kaulua recognizes an outstanding person in the community.  “This person would be the embodiment of what our canoes stand for,” event organizers said.  “Our awardee has dedicated his life to engage in, promote, encourage participation in and provide educational and instruction in Hawaiian Culture.  He inspires all generations to care for our land, care for our ocean, and care for our people.  We are proud to announce we will honor Clifford Nae’ole for this year’s Legacy Award,” an event announcement said.

The event will also include music by Henry Kapono and a silent auction.

Proceeds will go directly toward developing and conducting model educational programs that use voyaging to excite and challenge students and their communities to learn about, respect and care for the natural and social environment.

Hui o Wa’a Kaulua works closely with The Polynesian Voyaging Society in education, exploration, and preservation of voyaging arts. As ‘ohana, the Hui receives mentoring, and supports the endeavors of all Hawaiʻi’s great voyaging canoes.

The vision of Hui O Wa’a Kaulua is to cultivate and support future generations of voyagers to perpetuate the Hawaiian Culture.  The mission is to inspire all generations, improving the knowledge of sustainability, Hawaiian Culture and health through canoe voyaging and ancient teachings.
