Susan Echivarre Shiffler
January 21, 1953 – January 13, 2017

Age 63, of Kīhei, Maui passed away on Jan. 13, 2017 in Wailuku. Shiffler was born Jan. 21, 1953 in Basa Air Base, Philippines.

She is survived by husband, John Albert Shiffler ll; daughters Lana-Marissa (Richard) Hai, Jennifer Shiffler (Mike Cabasag); sons, John Shiffler lll, Aaron Shiffler, Michael Shiffler, Justin (Lecamieann) Shiffler, Jordan (Quynh Anh) Shiffler; 15 grandkids; sister, Hazel (Tony) Taniuchi; brothers, Marty Echivarre, Dean (Orchid) Echivarre, Achiles (Lilia) Echivarre, Arthur (Rosario) Echivarre.

In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Missionary Fund, Church of Jesus Christ of the L.D.S.

Visitation will be held from 6 to 9 p.m. on Thursday, Jan. 19, at Ballard Family Mortuary; Visitation at 9 a.m. on Friday, Jan. 20, at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints Kīhei Chapel, service at 10 a.m., and burial to follow at 1 p.m. at Maui Veteran’s Cemetery.

Joyce Ann Nobriga

Joyce Ann Nobriga
October 1, 1937 – January 12, 2017

Joyce was a Girl Scout Leader and Assistant Leader in Wailuku for over 25 years, teaching hundreds of Maui girls to perform flag ceremonies, bake cakes underground, trail blaze, cook on buddy burners, tie knots, and embrace the world around them with courage, respect, and a sense of adventure.

She served as Service Unit Manager for Maui and Molokaʻi, Island-wide cookie manager, Trainer, National Conference Delegate, and was the recipient of numerous awards for contributions made to Girl Scouts, Boy Scouts, and the community. She loved cardboard sliding at Rice Park, camping all over Hawaiʻi, Winter Olympic sports, root beer floats, soap operas, Fritos, Folgers coffee, and chocolate.

As a teenager Joyce worked as a live-in mother’s helper, until marrying the love of her life and beginning a family of her own. She taught her children how to walk on barrels and stilts, climb trees, and sew koa-seed leis. She loved playing BINGO and talking story until all hours of the night at family gatherings she hosted in her backyard. And she was a voracious reader, instilling a love of reading in all her children and grandchildren.

Joyce worked for the County of Maui, Committee on Aging, Nutrition Program for 24 years with Seniors from Hāna to Lahaina, with Sonny riding shotgun on the days she had to drive into Keʻanae. They shared wonderful adventures and are, finally, together again.

Services will be held on Saturday, January 21 at Norman’s Mortuary in Wailuku: 9 to 11 a.m., public viewing; 11 a.m. to 12 p.m., rosary and prayer service; 12:30 p.m. burial at Maui Memorial Park with lunch and fellowship at Norman’s after burial.

Leilani Joaquin
January 8, 1931 – January 11, 2017

Leilani Adelaide Joaquin, 86, of Kailua, Oʻahu, was born in Honolulu, Hawaiʻi on Jan. 8, 1931, and passed away on Jan. 11, 2017 in Ocean View, Hawaiʻi. Leilani was a home maker.

She is survived by son John Joaquin of Ocean View, Hawaiʻi; sister Ethel Richardson of Kohala, Oʻahu; two grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Funeral services are scheduled at Borthwick Mortuary, Oʻahu, on Friday, Jan.27, 2017 at 9 a.m. Burial to follow at Hawaiian Memorial Park.

James Shilzony

James Shilzony
February 18, 1948 – January 9, 2017

James Victor Shilzony, 68, of Ocean View, Hawaiʻi, was born in Mill Valley, California on Feb. 18, 1948, and passed away on Jan. 9, 2017 in Ocean View, Hawaiʻi. James served our Country in the Navy and was master mechanic of auto electrical systems.

He is survived by brother Fred (Meg) Shilzony of Mill Valley, California.
Private services will be held.

Remigia Macadangdang

Remigia Macadangdang
September 24, 1929 – January 5, 2017

In loving memory, visitation will be held from 6 to 9 p.m. on Sunday, Jan. 15, 2017, at Norman’s Mortuary. Visitation will also be held from 9 to 10 a.m. on Monday, Jan. 16, 2017, at Good Shepherd Episcopal Church, Wailuku; with a Celebration of Life service following at 10 a.m. She will be laid to rest at Maui Memorial Park at 12:30 p.m.

Macadangdang was the matriarch of her family; the loving wife and caregiver to her husband, and devoted mother and grandmother. She enjoyed gardening, cooking, sewing, watching UH volleyball and basketball, and especially spending time with her grandchildren. She lived her faith with devotion, was a dedicated servant to her church, and touched many with her gentle smile and selfless ways. She retired in dietary services at Hale Makua and managed a small family farm.

She leaves to cherish her memory, her beloved husband of 64 years, Pedro Macadangdang; daughters, Lydia (Michael) Merrigan, Ruby (Ricardo) Farinas, Agnes (Duane) Hayashi; brother, Juan Ulnagan; and grandchildren, Melissa Merrigan, Andreano Farinas, Wesley Hayashi, Celina Hayashi and Thomas Hayashi. The family expresses their sincerest gratitude to the staff of Hale Makua and Hospice Maui for their compassionate and tender care, and to family and friends for their outpour of love, support and prayers.

Visitation will be held at Ballard Family Mortuary in Kahului on Saturday, Jan. 28, 2017 from 9 a.m. to noon with prayer service at 11 a.m.

George is survived by his wife, Winona I. Goo; sons, George A. Goo Jr, Ivan D. (Leilani) Goo, Kevin B. (Jorie) Goo, Lyle A. (Luana) Goo; brothers, Nelson A.Y. Goo, Fred Mendoza; sister, Renadette Mendoza; grandchildren, Kevin Goo Jr, Kayla Goo, Kaipo Goo, Kiani Brown-Goo, Leiana Brown-Goo and great grandchild, Kamrie-Mae Goo.
