Developer No Longer Pursuing Puʻunani Subdivision in Wailuku, Maui

A development group has withdrawn plans to develop a long-planned mixed-use Puʻunani Subdivision project in Wailuku on Maui that would’ve added an estimated 147 residential lots and 450 multi-family units to the Central Maui area.
The Land Use Commission was informed that the petitioners are no longer pursuing the project at this time and have decided to withdraw the petition for a district boundary amendment that was pending before the LUC.

The project site, consisting of approximately 208 acres, was located in Wailuku, makai of Wailuku Heights and adjacent to the Kehalani master planned community.
The project would have included land use amendments for a State Land Use District Boundary Amendment, County of Maui Community Plan Amendment and County Change in Zoning. It would have also involved improvement of a government road (Old Waikapū Road) and Honoapiʻilani Highway to allow for access to the project.
The latest version of the project was scaled down from the 754 units proposed in 2009 when developers had sought an additional 127 half-acre rural lots.
