Deadline to Appeal Real Property Assessment, April 10

The County of Maui Real Property Assessment Division announced today that 2017 real property assessment notices will be delivered via mail or email to property owners on or before March 15, 2017.

The real property assessment notice will show the taxable value of the land and (if applicable) improvements, the amount of allowed exemptions, the person who received the exemption and the classification assigned to the property.

Property owners are encouraged to carefully review the document and contact the Division in person or by phone at 270-7297 if they have any questions. If a property owner disagrees with the assessment, general land class or exemption shown on their real property assessment notice, they may file an appeal with the Board of Review.

The deadline for filing an appeal is April 10, 2017.

Please note that this assessment notice is not a bill. The first-half installment for the 2017-2018 fiscal year will be mailed on or before July 20, 2017.

The Finance Department encourages tax payers to consider receiving a paperless electronic notice.

“The paperless option offers taxpayers the opportunity to view their assessment notice without delay via postal service delivery, on their computer, phone or mobile device,” said Real Property Assessment Division Administrator Scott Teruya. “Whether you are home or away, you can view it immediately. Also the public should consider that these paperless notices save taxpayer dollars on paper, postage and printing costs.
