Maui County Councilmember Yuki Lei Sugimura will serve on the National Association of Counties’ Rural Action Caucus.

The appointed was made by NACo President Bryan Desloge, according to an announcement from Sugimura’s office.

The Rural Action Caucus is dedicated to solving issues impacting rural communities, such as infrastructure development and business development opportunities. The caucus includes elected officials addressing and representing the counties on critical federal, state and local issues.

“I am honored to be appointed on this national committee that advocates for the importance of local government,” Sugimura said. “After attending the NACo’s Legislative Conference in Washington, DC last month, I am convinced there are best practices from other jurisdictions that will benefit Maui County, and there are practices from here that will benefit others.”

The caucus represents America’s rural counties, which is nearly two-thirds of the nation’s 3,069 counties, and serves as the voice before the Congress and the Administration.
