Kapono and Friends Bring C&K to the MACC

Henry Kapono, along side Johny Valentine, Alx Kawakami and Blayne Asing, will bring “The Songs of C&K” to the MACC, in a special salute to the music of Cecilio and Kapono.

The C&K music concert will take place at Castle Theater on Saturday, April 8, at 7:30 p.m. Tickets will go on sale Wednesday, March 22.

Kapono, a vocalist, guitarist, songwriter and composer, has received multiple honors and awards, including a Grammy nomination and numerous Nā Hōkū Hanohano awards. Kapono has been at the forefront of contemporary Hawaiian music throughout his career – from the successful duo of Cecilio & Kapono in the 1970s and 80s, to launching his solo career.

Hawaiʻi music award winner, Johnny Valentine, spent most of his life entertaining in Waikīkī. From shows to nightclubs, including part of Hawaiʻi’s beloved The Love Notes variety group that put his nephew, Bruno Mars, on stage, Valentine has become known as Hawaiʻi’s most versatile singer.

Singer and songwriter Blayne Asing started playing the ʻukulele at the age of eight and guitar by the age of nine. In addition to playing a variety of instruments, Asing is a prolific songwriter with a distinctive voice complimented by his own unique country/folk/island style. Asing released his first album in 2015 at the age of 27 and won Most Promising Artist at the 2016 Nā Hōkū Hanohano awards and is on the ballot again this year for his hit single, “Molokaʻi on my Mind.”

Alx Kawakami has been a singer, songwriter and producer for the past 15 years. With six albums and over 40 original compositions under his belt, Kawakami has worked with and written many major commercials, TV shows and feature films. After several years performing with his father and brothers in the group, Manoa DNA, Kawakami went solo in 2014 which landed him multiple nominations for his latest album, “Rise & Shine.”

Tickets are $15, $35, $45 and $55 plus applicable fees and discounts for MACC members will be available.
