Every year, surfers from all over the world come to test their mettle at Peʻahi, but the local boys steal the show. And it’s for good reason. This crew has pushed the limits of what’s possible out there, and through peer pressure and rivalries they’ve reached unprecedented heights.

Nervous Laughter, starring Albee Layer, Torrey Meister, Kai Lenny, Billy Kemper, and Dege Oconnell, will premiere at the Maui Arts and Cultural Center this Saturday, April 15th. This new film by Take Shelter Productions chronicles five surfers over the El Niño winter of 2016, and the unbelievable rides that went down during the season. After releasing their debut feature, Attractive Distractions, in 2014, Albee Layer and Dan Norkunas have elevated Take Shelter to new heights.

There will be additional edits by Matt Meola and Wes Larsen playing before the film. Beyond the media, there will be a ton of giveaways from surfboards to sponsor goodies. After the film, the party is headed to Charley’s in Pāʻia at 9:30 p.m. A silent auction will be held at Charley’s to benefit Lisa Kemper and her fight against cancer. All are welcome to attend.
