Looking Ahead

Complicated weather is expected through the weekend. All the ingredients will be present for flare ups in the form of heavy rain and thunderstorms. A front is forecast to stall over the state while simultaneously a disturbance high in the atmosphere brings instability.

Heavy rain is expected to be widespread, especially in Maui county this weekend. Rain will affect windward areas, while also impacting urban and leeward areas, which are more susceptible to flooding problems, especially in south and west Maui. These areas include Kihei, Lahaina, Kaanapali, and low-water crossings along Piilani Highway between Kaupo and Ulupalakua.

The heaviest rainfall is expected over Maui County and wet weather should continue into next week with a drying trend through the work week.
