MAMo at the MACC: Wearable Art Show, June 17

Maoli Arts Month at the MACC: Wearable Art Show is scheduled for Saturday, June 17, 2017 at the Maui Arts & Cultural Center, beginning at 7:30 p.m. with a designer’s trunk show beginning at 6 p.m.

The Maui event returns for a fourth consecutive year, presented by Maui Arts & Cultural Center in collaboration with the PA‘I Foundation.

The event will take place in the Yokouchi Pavilion, featuring the work of contemporary Island designers, whose creations extend from comfortable to traditional to cutting-edge to downright fantastical.

The wearable art show celebrates Hawaiian design in fabric and clothing – specifically in terms of cultural motif-in a way that makes it more than just a runway fashion show. Many traditional Hawaiian patterns and designs-in kapa and weaving, weaponry and tools, tattoo and adornment-take their visual clues from nature will be showcased.

This year’s event showcases creations by Kanoelani Davis/PōMahina Designs, Momi Greene and Jimie Ramos, Anna Kahalekulu/Kūlua Designs, Kawika Lum-Nelmida, Keoua Nelsen/iHala, Nita Pilago/Wahine Toa Designs, and Koa Johnson.

VIP tickets at $65 include the trunk show preview and a meet-and-greet with the designers at 6 p.m. Those purchasing the $65 VIP tickets will have the opportunity to preview the trunk show ahead of everyone else and make their purchases prior to the show.

Tickets for the show only are $35 and $45, with the Trunk Show to follow.

Tickets go on sale for MACC members today, May 4, and tickets go on sale to the general public on Friday, May 12, at 10 a.m.
