Jazz Maui Hosts 4th of July Concerts in Lahaina
Jazz Maui will host live music on two stages as part of the 4th of July celebration in Lahaina on Tuesday, July 4, 2017.
In the week leading up to the concerts, special guest artist and educator, LaFrae Sci, will conduct free music clinics for the public starting on Thursday, June 29.
The annual 4th of July Concert will take place at the Lahaina Library’s oceanside lawn next to Pioneer Inn. Live music starts at 5 p.m. with the Chop Suey Jazz Orchestra, comprising Maui musicians, and percussionist, LaFrae Sci, who teaches jazz at Lincoln Center in New York.
Entertainment will continue at 6 p.m. with Darren Lee and the Burn’n Love Band and will conclude with a performance by the 50-member Maui Community Band at 7 p.m.
The Outlets of Maui will have concert music at 4 p.m. with Radio DJ Lee Norris and his Jazz Metropolis mix. He will be followed by live performances from Jazz guitarist Prem Brasso, the Jazz Maui All-star Band and Na Ali‘i Big Band from King Kekaulike High School until 8 p.m.
Lahaina’s fireworks show will begin at 8 p.m. over the ocean with views from both concert locations.
Special guest LaFrae Sci, an internationally recognized composer, drummer and educator, will teach the following music clinics while on Maui: Drum & Rhythm on Thursday, June 29, from 2:30 to 4:30 p.m., and Improv on Saturday, July 1, from 10 a.m. to noon, at King Kekaulike High School in Pukalani. On Sunday, July 2, Jazz Maui’s monthly entertainment series at the Outlets of Maui will feature the music of jazz percussionist Peter DellaCroce and Friends from 6 to 8 p.m.
The 4th of July concert series will conclude Jazz Maui’s 2017 season, which began in March.
