24 Students Graduate from MPD Summer Leadership Program

A total of 24 students graduated from the Maui Police Department’s Summer Leadership Program held over six weeks in June and July at the Maui Waena Intermediate School campus in Kahului.

The program offers students an opportunity to participate in community service projects and cultural and educational activities and field trips.  It is designed to teach leadership skills and confidence and emphasizes giving back to the community.

The annual program is free to participants and is funded by the Maui Police Department.

Participants this year includes students ages 12 to 14, from seven different public and private schools and one home school, as well as six mentors, ages 15 to 18.

A “graduation” lūʻau was held on July 14, where students and mentors performed skits and hula and shared with family and friends the skills and accomplished they developed over the summer.
