Dear Mayor:

Q: The Eddie Tam lights at night: Why are the lights at Eddie Tam Park on so late many nights… sometimes until 11 p.m. or later? Isn’t this a waste of our taxpayers’ money?

I understand that at times the lights actually serve a purpose for some game or activity in the evenings, but many of us who live nearby have been wondering why the lights stay on so often and so late when there has been no activity for many hours. Mahalo.

A: The lights are designed to turn off using a timer, but sometimes the timer has malfunctioned in the past. It has since been replaced and is working properly.
