1,944 Gallons of Wastewater Overflows in Kahului

A wastewater overflow of approximately 1,944 gallons occurred on Thursday, June 7, 2018 on Māʻalo Street in Kahului.

The County of Maui’s Department of Environmental Management reported that the overflow was caused by a blockage of grit and pieces of PVC pipe in the main line. The overflow was reported at 8:45 p.m. and was stopped by 10:30 p.m.

The wastewater flowed along Māʻalo Street and ended in a French (sub-soil) drain.

County officials say the overflow did not reach the ocean. All spill waters was removed and all affected areas was disinfected.

The State Department of Health has been notified.
