Boys & Girls Clubs of Maui Honored at Regional Conference

Maui’s Kelly Pearson, the Chief Executive Officer of the Boys & Girls Clubs of Maui, was honored recently at the Pac-West Regional Leadership Conference in California.

Pearson has been with the Boys & Girls Clubs of Maui for 18 years, the last four as CEO.  She was honored with the organization’s Sparkplug Award, which is presented annually to the Chief Executive Officer of a Pacific Region Boys & Girls Club organization who has demonstrated exceptional determination, tenacity, spark and leadership of their Boys & Girls Club.

“Kelly is so deserving of the recognition, and I’m excited that we can honor her in this way,” said Doug Wells, Director of Organizational Development for Boys & Girls Clubs of America.

In addition to the award, Maui Central Clubhouse members, Reagan (age 12) and Brianna (age 11) Timmins took center stage as invited performers for the regional event.

The girls, who perform as the ʻUkulele Sisters, taught themselves how to play the ʻukulele, and were invited to perform at the conference after submitting a video to the Boys & Girls Clubs of America.

They said they were surprised to have been selected, and were honored to represent their Clubhouse. The girls love to perform, and weren’t nervous on stage in front of the large crowd, according to staff.

The Pac-West Regional Leadership Conference was held in California in September, and was attended by staff and board members of Boys & Girls Clubs in nine Pacific states and American Samoa.

Boys & Girls Clubs of Maui, Inc. is a non-profit 501 (c)(3) organization that operates drop-in service facilities that provide a safe, supportive, non-judgmental, nurturing and supervised environment where youth ages 9 to 17 years old can be themselves, experience positive role models and learn the values and skills that promote success.

Founded in 2000, the Mission of Boys & Girls Clubs of Maui is to inspire and enable all young people, especially those who need us most, to realize their full potential as productive, responsible and caring citizens. BGCM serves over 8,500 youth annually at six Clubhouses located across Maui County, and through numerous outreach programs. Clubs offer proven programs that help youth gain the skills they need to succeed in life.
