Workshops on Effective Lobbying Comes to Maui Oct. 15–18

Several “How-To” workshops will be held on Maui to educate the public on effective lobbying at the legislature.  The public will learn more about how laws are created and what citizens can do to have a say in the process.

This year, the Public Access Room is offering two new workshops at several different locations on Maui. One is geared towards newcomers and provides an introduction to the legislative process to get new participants ready for the session. The second workshop is for those who already have an understanding of how laws are made and will focus on advanced advocacy tips on effective lobbying.

“How-To” guides, informational handouts, and other resources will be available. Workshop times include:

Makawao:
Monday, Oct. 15 at the Makawao Public Library; 1159 Makawao Avenue
5:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. Beginner’s presentation
6:45 p.m. to 7:45 p.m. Advanced presentation

Kīhei: 
Tuesday, Oct. 16 at the Kīhei Public Library; 35 Waimahaihai Street

Kahului:
Wednesday, Oct. 17 at Akakū Community Media, 333 Dairy Road, Suite 104

Wailuku: 
Thursday Oct. 18 at the Wailuku Public Library, 251 S. High Street

The Public Access Room, a division of the State of Hawaii’s non-partisan Legislative Reference Bureau, is the public’s office at the State Capitol and assists residents as they engage in State legislative government. The office was established in 1990, and there is never a fee for services.
