Former Maui Police Captain, Stephen Orikasa was sentenced on Tuesday to one year probation for a misdemeanor fourth degree sex assault charge.

Court records show that Orikasa entered a guilty plea in July, 2018.

The charges stem from a complaint filed by one of his female sergeants.

In response to Maui Now’s request for comment, Lt. Gregg Okamoto said the female sergeant was not removed from her position, and that it was her choice to move to another district.

Lt. Okamoto, who serves as the Public Information Officer for the department said Orikasa chose to resign from the Department, and that the Department “had no say in his decision.”
