Teppanyaki.  You may have heard the term and eaten the food, but do you know what it means?  The cooking style came into its own after World War II.  It’s derived from the Japanese words teppan (鉄板), defined as iron plate, and yaki (焼き), which means grilled, broiled, or pan-fried.  The food cooked upon the iron griddle, which includes a range of proteins, vegetables and rice, happens with culinary expertise and fun flair, in front of guests at restaurants like Kobe Japanese Steakhouse here on Maui.

The space also includes Oku’s Sushi Bar, which features daily specials using top-quality, fresh local fish.  In fact, around 95% of Uncle Oku’s fish comes from Hawaiian waters, and the balance of his menu features exotic items imported from Japan.
