VIDEO: DOH Provides Med Cannabis Patient Registry Program Information

The Hawai‘i Department of Health will hold a news conference at 11:30 a.m. on Tuesday, March 5, 2019, which will provide details on major new developments in the state’s medical cannabis patient registry program.

The program aims to open a registry for out-of-state medical cannabis patients and begin new electronic registration card for Hawai‘i patients and out-of-state patients.

Speakers will discuss the new process for out-of-state patients to obtain medical cannabis from local certified retail dispensaries while visiting the islands, as well as introduce a new electronic registration card for all registered patients.

Hawai‘i becomes one of the first states in the nation to issue a fully electronic medical cannabis registration card.

Speakers will include Bruce Anderson, director of the Hawai‘i Department of Health; Peter Whiticar, chief of the DOH Harm Reduction Services Branch; Tamara Whitney, program coordinator for the DOH Medical Cannabis Registry Program; Michael Takano, CEO of Pono Life Sciences Maui LLC and 2018 chair of HEALTH, the industry trade association representing medical cannabis licensees in Hawai‘i.
