Transportation Worker ID Mobile Event Offered

The County of Maui Office of Economic Development is stepping up to offer an event to help people obtain or renew Transportation Worker Identification Credentials.

Individuals who pick up shipments at state harbors, such as Kaunakakai Harbor, need to present a TWIC card for access.

Moloka’i residents can only obtain or renew their expired TWIC card by traveling to Maui or Oʻahu to one of the Universal Enrollment Centers.

The Office of Economic Development at the Kuhaʻo Business Center is interested in scheduling a TWIC mobile site event on Molokaʻi. Since the cards need to be renewed every five years, the last TWIC mobile site event was held on the island in 2014.

The event also can include the Transportation Security Administration’s other programs: TSA Pre Check and HAZMAT endorsement. There are minimum enrollment requirements before TSA’s contractor, Idemia, would schedule this mobile unit. So, the Economic Development Office is taking a survey to determine how many Molokaʻi residents would commit to enrolling in one of the three programs.

The mobile site event needs at least 100 participants, and an additional 50 enrollments are required to extend the event to include TSA Pre Check and HAZMAT endorsement.

Survey participants need to identify which program documentation they need: TWIC, TSA Pre Check or HAZMAT. If the survey determines there’s enough interest, further information would be provided to make an appointment for the event. It could be scheduled as early as mid-June.
