Applications Now Being Accepted for Daniel K. Inouye Innovation Award

The Maui Economic Development Board is now accepting applications for their 2019 Daniel K. Inouye Innovation Award. The annual award is presented to a Maui County student team project that best demonstrates innovation in science, technology, engineering and math tools to serve and improve the community.

The award is open to all Maui County students from grades 6 to 12. High school seniors graduating this June are also eligible to apply. Applicants must demonstrate their application of technology and service learning for the benefit of Maui Nui. STEMworks students are encouraged to apply, but applicants do not need to be in a STEMworks lab to be considered.

The winning project will be announced at the MEDB Ke Alahele Education Fund “Pathways To Our Future” Dinner and Auction on Saturday, Aug. 31 at the Wailea Beach Resort-Marriott. Proceeds from the event will support MEDB’s continuing efforts to advance STEM education in Maui County.

“The Daniel K. Inouye Innovation Award recognizes our islands’ best and brightest in the innovation and the application of science and technology to solve challenges around us,” MEDB president and CEO Leslie Wilkins said. “It is the highest student award MEDB presents and we look forward to honoring our county’s STEM stars.”
