Honoapi‘ilani Now OPEN in Mā‘alaea Following Brush Fire

UPDATE: (June 12, 2019, 3:38 p.m.)

The Honoapiʻilani Highway (Hwy 30) is now OPEN.  Maui fire crews extinguished a brush fire near Mile 8 of the highway, which burned a quarter acre.

The fire was reported at around 2:52 p.m. and was extinguished by 3:30 p.m.

The Maui Fire Department’s Engine 1 and Tanker 10 responded to the scene.

Maui fire officials say the cause of the fire is unknown.  Conditions at the time of the incident were clear, with trade winds blowing at 15 mph.

Motorists can expect a delay as traffic resumes its normal flow.

The Honoapiʻilani Highway (Hwy 30) is closed in both directions at Mile Marker 8, on the “pali” section of the road in Māʻalaea due to a brush fire.  Crews are on scene.
