Calib Sarabia

November 15, 1963 – August 5, 2019

Calib Sarabia of Kailua Kona, Hawaiʻi died on Aug. 5, 2019 in Kailua Kona. He was born on Nov. 15, 1963 in the Philippines. Calib worked as a taxi driver.

He is survived by sons C. J. (Jeanny) Sarabia of Las Vegas, Nevada; Justin (Rose) Sarabia of Las Vegas, Nevada; daughter Collette Chapman of Kailua Kona; brothers Jessie (Pat) Sarabia of Federal Way, Washington; Danny Sarabia of Klamath Falls, Oregon; Ben (Jessica) DeLeon of Maui; Wesley Sarabia of Philippines; sisters Clarissa Southerland of Kailua Kona; Edith (Robert) Sarabia of Waimea, Hawaiʻi; and Lia (Paul) Lanuza of Phoenix, Arizona.

Manuel Martelles

June 13, 1943 – August 5, 2019

Visitation is from 6 to 9 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 23, 2019 at St. Joseph Church. Mass is at 7 p.m. with cremation to follow. Urn burial service will be held at 9 a.m. on Monday, Aug. 26, 2019 at the Maui Veterans Cemetery.

Manuel retired from HC&S where he worked as a heavy equipment operator.

He had two brothers who are deceased, (Anthony Martelles and Joseph Martelles). He is survived by his son, Glen Daguay; brothers and sisters, Patricia (Costo) Maddela, Magdaline Martelles, Frances (Richard Sato) Mattson, Dorothy Rilloraza, and Paul (Paulette) Ramos; 16 nieces and nephews, Annette Kekona, Tommy Maddela, Danny Madella, Harvey Maddela, Manuel-Joe Maddela, Francis Maddela, Vanessa Cochran, Tony Martelles, Kamuela Solomon, Eric Roan, Steven Harper, Yvette Reece, Robert Martelles, Serena Martelles, Kimberly Asuncion and Joseph Martelles Jr.

Helen Harriet Santos

August 22, 1934 – August 4, 2019

Family and friends are invited to gather on Wednesday, Aug. 14, 2019 at St. Joseph Church in Makawao. Funeral services are from 6 to 9 p.m. with prayer service at 7:30 p.m. Visitation will continue on Thursday, Aug. 15 at St. Joseph’s from 9 to 10 a.m. followed by Mass with burial to follow at Makawao Veteran’s Cemetery.

Harriet is survived by children: Charlene (Keith) Sakamoto, Jo-Anne (Warrick) Aiwohi, Jordan (Carlene) Santos, Donna (Eric) Pico, and Michael (Margie) Santos; 14 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild; sisters, Marie Amaral and Juliana Perreira; and a brother-in-law, Edwin Bras. She is pre-deceased by her husband Joseph “Big Joe” Santos; parents, Manuel & Mary DeCambra; sisters, Virginia Caires, Angeline Cravalho, Barbara Bras and Polmyra Gomes; brothers, Joseph, Frank, Richard, Peter and Paul; son-in-law, Keith Sakamoto; and great-grandchild, Mycah Purdy.

The family would like to express heartfelt gratitude to all their family and friends. Special thanks to Karen Canha, Janelle Correia and the staff of Hospice Maui.

June 12, 1922 – August 1, 2019

Services will be held on Thursday, Aug. 15, 2019 at Norman’s Mortuary from 6 p.m. with services to begin at 7 p.m. Second day visitation will be held on Friday, Aug. 16, 2019 at Norman’s Mortuary from 9 a.m. with services to begin at 10 a.m. Burial will follow at Valley Isle Memorial Park in Haʻikū. Alfonso Taal

January 25, 1943 – July 29, 2019

Alfonso Tacalan Taal, 76 of Wailuku, Maui passed away on July 29, 2019 under the nurturing care of Maui Memorial Medical Center.

He was born in the Santo Domingo, Ilocos Sur, Philippines on Jan. 26, 1943 to the late Victor and Rosalina Taal.

Alfonso is survived by his wife, Prelina Taal; sons, Nelson (Veronica) Taal, Herbert (Karren) Taal; grandchildren, Christian Taal, Trevor Taal, Sophia Valdivia; great grandson, Adam Taal; siblings, Teresa Tadeo, Johnny Taal, Milagros Urmeneta; and in-laws, Renato Tacardon, Amparo Tacardon.

Services will be held on Friday, Aug. 23, 2019 at Norman’s Mortuary. Visitation will begin at 6 p.m. with prayer service to start at 7:30 p.m. Services will continue on Saturday, Aug. 24, 2019 at Christ the King Church. Visitation begins at 8 a.m. with Mass to begin at 9 a.m. Burial to follow services at Maui Memorial Park at 10:30 p.m.
