NOAA Ship Rainier Lecture at Humpback Sanctuary, Aug. 13

NOAA’s Hawaiian Islands Humpback Whale National Marine Sanctuary in Kīhei will host their monthly Sanctuary Science Series on Tuesday, Aug. 13, 2019 from 6:30 to 7:30 pm.

This month’s speaker is from NOAA Ship Rainier, a hydrographic survey vessel that maps the ocean to aid maritime commerce, improve coastal resilience and understand the marine environment. Rainier’s officers, technicians, and scientists log the data that NOAA cartographers use to create and update the nation’s nautical charts with ever-increasing data richness and precision.

The public is invited to learn about the hydrographic surveys taking place off Maui, Molokaʻi and Oʻahu.

The lecture will be held at the Hawaiian Islands Humpback Whale National Marine Sanctuary, located at 726 South Kīhei Road.

Hawaiian Islands Humpback Whale National Marine Sanctuary is administered by a partnership of NOAA’s Office of National Marine Sanctuaries and the State of Hawai‘i through the Department of Land and Natural Resources. The sanctuary works to protect humpback whales through research, education, conservation and stewardship.
