Akakū Upstairs will host a salon on the redevelopment of Wailuku’s downtown area and civic center on Aug. 15 from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m in the Akakū Media Lab.

According to Akakū in a press release, funding has been set aside for improvements to the slowly declining area surrounding the courthouse and county offices.

County Planner Erin Wade, the point person on the project, will discuss the various phases of development, its impact on traffic and parking, and new features like public art installations.

Wade will also provide an update on the project’s progress and discuss mitigation efforts to address traffic and parking issues.
