Applications for US Sen. Brian Schatz’s High School Internship program are now being accepted.

The goal of the program is to provide a hands-on learning opportunity about the US Senate and to encourage students to become leaders in their own communities.

“Young people have shown that they are ready to lead on issues that are important to our state and country,” Sen. Schatz said in a news release.

“I encourage anyone who wants to help make a difference in their community to apply to join our team.”

The internship does not require students to report to an office. Students will perform the role remotely from home and communicate with the office online.

The program is encouraging students from all islands to apply. Interns must commit for the full program period from October 2019 until April 2020. Strong preference is given to students in their last year of high school.

Applications must be submitted before 6 p.m. HST on Sept. 8.
