Nainoa Thompson Comes to Maui

Tickets are now available for a special presentation featuring Nainoa Thompson. 

The talk, titled “Mālama Honua (Care for Island Earth: In a Changing World, Hope Comes With Action,” is a part of the Maui Nui Marine Resource Councilʻs “Know Your Ocean” speaker series 

A master navigator and the president of the Polynesian Voyaging Society, Thompson led Hōkūleʻa’s global “Mālama Honua” (care for island Earth) voyage. 

Inspired by his kūpuna, his teachers, Thompson has dedicated his life to exploring the deep meaning of traditional Polynesian voyaging. 


Thompson is the recipient of numerous community awards, including the National Geographic Society’s Hubbard Medal, which recognizes lifetime achievement in research, discovery, and exploration.

The presentation will be held on Oct. 8 at the historic ʻĪao Theatre at 6 p.m. Doors open at 5:30 p.m.
