The next meeting for the Hawaiʻi Farmers Union Unitedʻs Mauna Kahalawai chapter will feature Hawaiian cultural practitioner Sam Kaʻai.
In addition to a talk from Kaʻai, the evening will include a hands-on kuʻi kalo session and a Hawaiian-style dinner.
The meeting will be held from 5:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. on Sept. 12 at the Maui Tropical Plantation’s Maui Chef’s Table venue.
A master artisan and noted scholar, Ka’ai is expected to share his manaʻo, thoughts, on the upcoming makahiki season.
In 2017, the Office of Hawaiian Affairs named Kaʻai one of “Nā Mamo o Ka Poʻe Hawaiʻi: Living Treasures of the Hawaiian People.”
Dinner will include fresh paʻiʻai, poke, pork lūʻau, dried fish, and lomi salmon.
Admission costs $10 for HFUU members and $15 for non-members.
The event is waste-free, and the HFUU is asking attendees to bring their own plates and utensils.
