Low streamflow is prompting the county to request that West Maui residents conserve water.

The Department of Water Supply announced today that recent dry weather and record high-temperature conditions have led to a shortage of water in ditch intakes at both the Mahinahina and Lahaina water treatment facilities.

Due to limited production at both facilities, the department is asking residents in the area to reduce water usage when possible so that water supply is available until weather conditions restore normal flow.

If a water problem occurs, customers can contact the departmentʻs 24-hour service hotline at (808) 270-7633.
