Maui Police Participate in Beard It Up, Color For the Cure, Pink Patch Campaigns

The Maui Police Department will once again be participating in the National Challenge, Cure Starts Now Beard it Up and Color For the Cure campaigns as they raise funds for childhood cancers and research.

During the campaign, employees of the department will show their support by growing their beards as part of “Beard it Up” or coloring their hair or nails as part of “Color for the Cure.”

The department has launched a donation page online with one hundred percent of all money raised going directly to pediatric cancer research.  So far, the site has raised $1,275.52 toward a goal of $5,000.

The Cure Starts Now is the largest funding source for DIPG (diffuse intrinsic pontine glioma) research in the world. Children are diagnosed with cancer every day and The Cure Starts Now is at the forefront of finding and funding a cure through innovative research.

Those who prefer to send a check can do so by making the check out to “The Cure Starts Now” and put Beard It Up: [department name: Maui Police Department] in the memo and mail to CSN; Attn: Beard it Up 2019; 10280 Chester Rd; Cincinnati, OH 45215.

The Maui Police Department is also participating in the Pink Patch Project during the month of October for Breast Cancer Awareness Month.  Officers have the option of wearing a MPD Pink Patch as part of the observance.

Sale of the patches will also be available to the public through the department’s Community Relations Section at (808) 244-6380 or [email protected].  MPD is the first agency in Hawaiʻi, to participate in the project and is dedicating this year’s fundraising to the Pacific Cancer Foundation.

The Maui Police Department provides law enforcement services for a population of over 166,403 residents and about three million visitors per year on the islands of Maui, Lānaʻi and Molokaʻi.
