November 28, 1950 – September 23, 2019

Dennis Michael MacDonald, 68, of Kula, Maui, passed away on Sept. 23, 2019. He was born on Nov. 28, 1950, in Hanford, California.

Visitation will be held from 8:30 a.m. on Saturday, Oct. 12, 2019, at Ballard Family Mortuary. Memorial service will begin at 10 a.m. A paddle out and scattering will follow.

Dennis was the owner of DMAC & Sons. He is survived by his wife, Cindy MacDonald; sons, Travis MacDonald, Cody MacDonald, Marshall McMillan, Bradley McMillan, Garrett (Shay) McMillan; daughter, Rachael McMillan; brother, Pat (Gail) MacDonald; sister-in-law, DeeDee MacDonald; grandchildren, Callie & Siena MacDonald; and canine grandchildren, Noah, Ziggy, Paka, Maui Boy, Noelani and Chumba.

December 15, 1930 – September 20, 2019

Gordon Carl Cockett, 88 of Lahaina, passed away on Sept. 20, 2019 at his home. He was born on Dec. 15, 1930 in Wailuku.

Visitation will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, Oct. 5, 2019 at Lahaina Hongwanji Mission, service will begin at 11 a.m.

Gordon graduated from St. Anthony, Class of 1948, excelling in football and track. He attended Creighton University in Omaha, Nebraska and returned to Maui. Gordon loved to cook, fish, golf, and visit Las Vegas on a regular basis. His longtime buddies remember his jokester ways fondly, always in good fun and much laughter.

Gordon retired from the Maui Police Department and then opened Lahaina Fishery with his wife, Aileen. He is survived by his wife, Aileen Cockett; children, Williet Cockett-deceased, Craig Cockett, Sheridan (Frances) Cockett, John V. Cockett II-deceased, Carla Uesato, Laurie Viela, Garret Tihada; sister, Winona Amorin; 18 grandchildren, and 34 great-grandchildren.

October 21, 1950 – September 19, 2019

Raymond James Hutaff, 68, of Kula, Maui, passed away on Sept. 19, 2019 in Utah. He was born on Oct. 21, 1950 in Raleigh, North Carolina.

Services will be held from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 28, 2019, at Ballard Family Mortuary; scattering of ashes on Oc. 1, 2019 at sunset – location to be announced.

Raymond was the owner & operator of Valley Isle Excursions and active in the community. Ervan Sardinha, 87, of Kahului Maui, passed away on Sept. 18, 2019 at Maui Memorial Medical Center. He was born on Feb. 24, 1932, in Puʻunēnē, Maui.

Visitation will be held from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. on Friday, Oct. 4, 2019, at Christ the King Church; service will begin at 11 a.m.; burial will follow 1 p.m., at the Maui Veteran’s Cemetery in Makawao

Ervan retired as a Maintenance Supervisor for Puunene and Lihikai School.

He is survived by his Wife, Harriet Sardinha; Son, Warren (Janet) Sardinha; Grand Children, Jaimie Sardinha (Andrew), Keith (Jazmin) Sardinha; Great Grandchildren Taygen Webb and Chayse Webb; Siblings Loui Sardinha (Deceased), Joseph Sardinha (Deceased), Clarence Sardinha (deceased),
Thelma Stone; Myrtle Pico (David).

Setsuko Asato

August 3, 1928 – September 17, 2019

Setsuko Hironaka Asato, 91 of Pukalani, passed away on Sept. 17, 2019 at Islands Hospice in Kahului. She was born in Haiku on Aug. 3, 1928.

Visitation will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday Oct. 26, 2019, at Makawao Hongwanji Mission, service over urn will begin at 11 a.m.

Family request that any monetary donation be made to Makawao Hongwanji Mission. Setsuko was a school teacher at Haiku Elementary School. She is survived by her daughter, Laureen (Sabi Inderkum) Asato; son, Kelly (Gayle) Asato; son-in-law, Lyle Hirota; brother, Arthur Hironaka; and grandchildren, Kip and Kaylie Asato. Setsuko is predeceased by her husband, Chester Asato and daughter, Suzanne Hirota.

Duke Wilson

March 22, 1944 – September 9, 2019

Duke Roland Wilson, 75, of Kahului, Maui, passed away on Sept. 11, 2019 at home. Born in Pahala, Hawaiʻi, he was a US Navy Veteran, a member of the Board of Directors for The Arc of Maui County, and owner of Kaanapali (Aikane) Trolley.

Services will be held on Saturday Oct. 5, 2019 at Ballard Family Mortuary, Kahului. Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. Services 11 a.m. to 12 p.m. followed by a Celebration of Life luncheon.

He is survived by mother Margaret M Wilson of Puna; former wife, Monique Wilson of Kahului; son, Duke Wilson Jr. of Puna; daughter, Michelle (Don) Perea of Hilo; Partner, Gail Kanetani of Kahului; daughter Kuhea (Arlie) Asiu of Kahului; Grandsons Brandon (Katherine) Perea of Hilo, Bryson (Carmen) Paracuelles of Wahiawa and Landon (Catherine) Paracuelles of Wahiawa; Five great-granddaughters, Cameron, Maya, Zandria, Zariah & Charlie; Nephews Edward Wilson , Leslie Wilson, Scott Wilson, & Shane Wilson of Puna, and Lloyd Wilson of Kailua Kona.

Raymond Dion

November 6, 1953 – September 8, 2019

Raymond Dean Dion, 65, of Hilo, passed away on Sept. 8, 2019 at North Hawaiʻi Community Hospital. Born on Nov. 6, 1953, he was a Public Safety Corrections Officer, member of the Elks Club, and served in the United States Marine Corps.

Service will be held at Ballard Family Mortuary Hilo on Tuesday Oct. 1, 2019. Visitation at 9:30 a.m., service at 10:30 a.m. Burial to follow at noon at Hawaiʻi State Veterans #2.

Raymond is survived by his wife, Lorraine Ann Dion; son, Keola Keanaaina; daughters, Nuala Taylor, and Nohea-Minei Keanaaina; brother, Michael Dion; sister, Lisa Dion; 8 grandchildren, 3 great-grandchildren.

Jordan Powell

May 17, 1993 – August 29, 2019

Jordan Seth Powell of Kailua Kona, Hawaiʻi died on Aug. 29, 2019 in Kealakekua, Hawaii. He was born on May 17, 1993 in Biloxi, Mississippi. Jordan worked as a car repair technicial.

He is survived by parents Mark and Linda Powell of Biloxi, MS; sister Ashleigh Powell of Biloxi, MS; brother Joshua (Catherine) Powell of New Orleans, LA; grandparents Kay VanderLey of Waldorf, MD; and Patsy Powell of Biloxi, MS.

Genevieve Seguirant-Llanes

April 11, 1946 – August 25, 2019

Genevieve Pearl Seguirant-Llanes, 73, of Wahiawa, passed away on Aug. 25, 2019 in Wahiawa, Hawaiʻi. She was born in Ka’ū, Hawaiʻi on April 11, 1946. She was a KCC Cafeteria Manager.

She is survived by her husband: Benito Eric Llanes of Naʻalehu, Hawaiʻi; mother: Marianne Manuel of Naʻalehu, Hawaiʻi; and children: Roy Kuahuia, Darlene Galigo, Carl Enos Sr., Darrin Enos Sr., Myron Enos Sr., and Brian Enos.
