Accepting Applications for Carpentry Program on Maui and Moloka‘i
The Council for Native Hawaiian Advancement announced the expansion of its carpentry program to Maui and Molokaʻi.
This past July the organization graduated more than 70 students on Oʻahu from this same program. “The results have been amazing with nearly all graduates securing employment,” according to CNHA.
“These once aspiring carpenters are now fully equipped and on their way to becoming stable, well paid tradesmen in the carpentry field,” program administrators said.
“The goal of the program is to raise income for Native Hawaiian families by providing participants with the skills, tools and mentorships they need to become successful in the trade industry,” said Kuhio Lewis, Chief Executive Officer for the Council for Native Hawaiian Advancement.
Classes are scheduled to begin in November. Enrollment will continue until the end of October.
The Hawaiian Trades Academy is facilitated by the Council for Native Hawaiian Advancement in partnership with a number of non-profit and for-profit organizations. It is designed to help prepare and situate Native Hawaiians in the trade industry.
Individuals in the program can obtain OSHA-10 certification, hands on carpentry skills, apprentice test preparation, job placement and participation in a matching savings program.

- Provide participants, who successfully complete the program, with a smooth transition into high-paying jobs; and
- Assist families with long-term financial planning through a matching savings program.
