“Clearing the Cloud” Symposium Addresses Youth Vaping Epidemic
More than 150 parents, students, educators, law makers, public health experts, law enforcement officials, and advocates will attend Maui County’s first-ever symposium addressing the rise and health risks of youth vaping, on Friday, Oct. 11, 2019.
FEATURED SPEAKERS: Dr. Bonnie Halpern-Felsher, Stanford University. Kevin Ramirez, 808 No Vape Campaign. Trish La Chica, Hawai’i Public Health Institute. Kawena Kekuewa, Maui Nui Youth Council.
WHAT: First-ever anti-vaping symposium featuring national and local experts, and the presentation of the Maui Nui Youth Council’s Youth Advocacy Awards to honor young local champions in tobacco prevention and control.
WHEN: Friday, Oct. 11, 2019, 5 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Keynote speaker, Dr. Bonnie Halpern-Felsher, will present from 5:05 to 5:50 p.m. Presentation of awards will take place at 6:40 p.m. The closing panel and Q&A featuring Dr. Halpern-Felsher, Trish La Chica, Dr. Dean Felsher, Maui Nui Youth Council representative Tyler Fisher, School Resource Officer Brandon Phillips, Akamai Recovery Director Jeffrey H. Chester, Kalama Intermediate School Principal Timothy Shim will take place from 7 to 7:25 p.m.
