Screening of ‘The S Word’ to Discuss Suicide Prevention
Kamehameha Schools Maui is inviting the public to a free screening of “The S Word,” a documentary chronicling the journey of a suicide attempt survivor.
In a press release, the school described the film as “a powerful feature documentary that puts a human face to a topic that has long been stigmatized and buried with the lives it has claimed.”
“The purpose of the screening is to educate students, school staff, families, and community members on this important topic,” the release continued.
A panel discussion will follow the film screening. Attendees will also be conntected with resources and community providers.
The school is encouraging parents to attend with children ages 15 and older.
The event will be held on Oct. 16 at the KSM Keōpūolani Hale. Doors will open at 5:30 p.m. and the movie will begin at 6 p.m.
