Winning on the PGA TOUR is the only way to qualify for the 2020 Sentry Tournament of Champions. Courtesy of his maiden TOUR victory, Lanto Griffin became the latest player to qualify for the winners-only event, while Kevin Na picked up his second victory of the calendar year. The champions-only event returns to Maui and The Plantation Course at Kapalua from Jan. 1 to 5, 2020.
In his second start at the Golf Club of Houston, Lanto Griffin captured his first career PGA TOUR victory at the Houston Open when he closed with a 3-under 69 to defeat Scott Harrington by one stroke. The 31-year-old, who earned his 2019-20 TOUR card via the 2019 Korn Ferry Tour, became the third first-time winner in the first five events of the season (Joaquin Niemann, Sebastián Muñoz). With the victory, Griffin now has four wins in three different PGA TOUR-sanctioned Tours: PGA TOUR Latinoamérica (1), Korn Ferry Tour (2) and PGA TOUR (1). The win secured Griffin’s opportunity to make his first trip to Maui and the Sentry Tournament of Champions.
Kevin Na edged out Patrick Cantlay in a playoff battle at the Shriners Hospitals for Children Open with a par-4 on the second extra hole (No. 18) to earn his fourth career PGA TOUR victory. The 36-year-old overcame a triple bogey on the par-4 No. 10 at TPC Summerlin to pick up his second win at the Shriners Hospitals for Children Open, joining Jim Furyk as the only multiple winners of the event. On his way to victory, Na set a TOUR record for most feet of putts made (558’11”) in a 72-hole event, breaking Ben Martin’s ShotLink-era record of 551’2” set at the 2015 Charles Schwab Challenge. Na previously qualified for the Sentry Tournament of Champions with his win at the Charles Schwab Challenge earlier this calendar year.
Six opportunities remain for players to qualify for the 2020 Sentry Tournament of Champions.
Here is a list of the tournaments:
