County Unemployment Rate Same As Last Year
This September, 2.7 percent of Maui County residents were unemployed, according to the state Department of Labor & Industrial Relations.
While the county’s unemployment rate showed a slight increase from 2.4 percent in August, the rate remained the same as that of last September.
The unemployment rate for the island of Maui this September was 2.6 percent, a modest rise from 2.3 percent in August and 2.5 percent during the same time last year.
In September, the unemployment rate for the entire state was 2.7 percent, the same as the month before.
Statewide, 17,750 residents were unemployed in September.
Nationally, the seasonally adjusted unemployment rate was 3.5 percent in September, compared to 3.7 percent from June through August.
Initial claims dropped about 20 percent, while weeks claims decreased by about 8 percent in September compared to a year ago.
These figures are seasonally adjusted to account for fluctuations in employment during regular events like the winter holiday season and the summer vacation period.
The not seasonally adjusted rate for the state was 2.8 percent in September, compared to the revised rate of 2.6 percent in August.
