The Coast Guard is seeking the public’s help in identifying the owner of a yellow kayak that was found in South Maui waters earlier today.

A group of divers on the Maui Diamond II scuba tour boat found the kayak adrift about a half a mile off the Makena State Park before 8:30 this morning.

A Coast Guard crew conducted a search of the area and found no signs of distress.

The Coast Guard offers free “If Found” decals to help responders quickly determine if someone is in distress and return equipment to its owners.

These labels are available at local harbormasters, through the Coast Guard Auxiliary, from Honolulu Sail and Power offices, and select marine retail and supply store.

The Coast Guards is asking that the public report missing kayaks, surfboards, or safety equipment to help search and rescue specialists deconflict possible distress reports.

Anyone with information regarding the yellow kayak is being asked to call the Coast Guard at (808) 842-2600.
