Two locally owned businesses are lending a helping hand to those struggling with hunger on Maui.

Earlier today, Hamai Appliance and Abbey Carpet Maui packed 10,000 meals at each of their store locations for the “No Child Hungry” program.

Mayor Mike Victorino joined employees and volunteers in the effort.

“Hamai Appliance is celebrating its 50th anniversary and this was one small way to give back to the community,” the company’s president Bryant Hamai said in a press release.

The 20,000 meals packed today will be distributed to several agencies and churches throughout the island.

In light of the event, Mayor Victorino proclaimed today, Nov. 2, as Hamai Appliance Day for Maui County.
