RD Olson Development goes before the Maui Planning Commission today for its proposed 200-room Windward hotel at the Maui Business Park II subdivision in Kahului.

At today’s meeting, the developer is proposing that the commission be the accepting agency for its Final Environmental Impact Statement in support of the Community Plan Amendment from Light Industrial to Hotel use.

The project is planned on just over five acres of former sugar cane land in Central Maui off of Lauʻō Loop.

According to the Draft Environmental Impact Statement filed for the project last month, it is anticipated that the Windward Hotel project will be constructed in a single phase with an anticipated construction start date in 2021. The Draft EIS estimates that the hotel will be open for business in 2023.

The Planning Commission meeting starts at 9 a.m. at the Planning Conference Room located at 250 South High Street, Kalana Pakui Bldg, #200 in Wailuku.
