Proposed Wailuku Hotel Topic of Community Event

“Hotel Wailuku: A New Kamaʻaina Business Hotel for Wailuku Town” will be the subject for the next Akakū Upstairs salon.

Longtime Maui residents and Wailuku property owners, Jonathan Starr and Helen Nielsen, are major partners in Supreme Bright  Wailuku, LLC, an entity proposing a new kamaʻāina business hotel in Wailuku Town.

Starr and Nielsen, and other project stakeholders, will describe the project and the benefits they hope it will bring to the community. They will also provide a history of the hotels that were once prevalent in Wailuku and field questions from the audience.

“Wailuku has recently been the focus for revitalization to improve aging infrastructure and resurrect the vibrancy of local businesses, the arts and government in this historic district,” a press release form Akakū read.

Project stakeholders are requesting a height variance from the Maui Redevelopment Agency to permit the construction of the six-story, privately funded business hotel.

Hotel Wailuku is one of Akakū’s 2020 Spring Salon Season sponsors.

The event will be held on Thursday, Feb. 13, at 6 p.m. in the Akakū Media Lab on Dairy Road.
